Best Magazine covers of 2013 and the last 40 years

Favorite:
The controversial April 1968 cover depicting Muhammad Ali impaled by six arrows appeared on the heels of his refusal to be inducted into the U.S. Army because of his religious beliefs. (Ali, convicted violating the Selective Service Act, was barred from the ring and stripped of his title.) The cover, the second of three Esquire covers defending Ali, shows the boxer martyred as St. Sebastian, a patron saint of athletes and one who was shot with arrows for his steadfast religious beliefs. This was one of the covers designed by the renowned George Lois, Esquire's Art Director during the 1960s. - See more at: http://www.magazine.org/asme/magazine-cover-contests/asmes-top-40-magazine-covers-last-40-years#sthash.9VNzvVc7.dpuf

This portrait is depicting the actions done to someone standing up for their religious beliefs. Its is communicated that the guy in the photo was shot with arrows for his religious beliefs. It is communicated by showing him standing with the arrows in him. There aren't any cover lines on this photo, and i believe this to be so because the picture says most of the words itself. The only thing the description tells is why he has the arrows and how it came about. The lighting is fairly bright because of the all white background. There isn't much composition to the picture that i can see other than simplicity or background because there is nothing behind him distracting the photo, its all blank and white.

My Portrait

Year in Review: 2013

Part 1: Best photos of 2013
This photo was one of my favorites from 2013 because the jellyfish in the picture were really interesting to me. Also i thought by the picture showing the little boy looking through the glass, it shows almost a inspirational emotion to the photo. The photo seems to having a sense of leading lines created by the light leading toward the boy and the jellyfish.
This photo was one of my favorites from 2013 because the essence given from the lights creates a really interesting appeal to the the photo. The repetition of lights give it a appeal to draw your eyes toward the picture and make it more attracting. Theres also a composition being used which is repetition or pattern of lights that the mirrors create and it makes the photo that much more interesting.
This photo was one of my favorites from 2013 because the stars in the sky look so cool and almost mesmerizing. Theres a clear interesting appeal present. Theres a photo composition in the photo which is framing because the mountains frame perfectly around the stars.

Part 2: Your Favorites
1.
The best song of 2013 i believe was Bad by Wale because its not only popular but its also a really good song that had a good beat to it. The fact that the song was up beat and well known from all my friends attracted me to the song. I believe it was the best song of 2013 because it got big for a while and people still jam out to the song even though its been out for a while and the song just makes things happier.

2. The best movie of 2013 was The Hunger Games: Catching Fire because it was really well promoted and many people read the book so they were looking forward to see the movie. The movie itself attracted me to it because it was such a good movie and many people told me they enjoyed it.

3. The best news story of 2013 was the Jodi Arias conflict involving her and her dead ex-boyfriend. I chose this story because i thought it was interesting and it got a lot of buzz in the news. The story attracted me to it and how there was many plot twists and turns in her trial. I believe it was the best story of 2013 because of how many people were talking about it and how much media attention was focused on it.

4. The most important person of 2013 was Nelson Mandela. I chose him as my main choice because he has been an inspiring person for years. Not only because he has been continuously inspiring but also because he did pass away which brought him back up into our lives and the media. He was the best person of 2013 because of his amazing personality, inspiration attitude and remembrance.

5. I think the biggest sports story of 2013 was when Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, and Kobe Bryant all suffered horrible injuries that effected the events of the 2013 NBA playoffs.

Part 3: Holiday and Hopes
1. One thing i will remember during my brother in law proposing to my sister by filling the whole house with balloons.
2. I didn't have any resolutions this year.
3. Im looking forward to getting my license and spring break in 2014.

3200 was the best ISO setting to use for my portraits.

Yes I was able to create equivalent exposures to my best photo by changing the speed and shutter speed.
I learned that its difficult to shoot outside because the sun will go away and then come back, and its super windy which makes it inconvenient.
